If you are playing Diablo 3 for the first time, your first choice is to pick a class. In this Diablo 3 guide, you will find the basics behind each class and learn exactly how each class is built.
The first class you will find is the Barbarian. This is just like the Barbarian from Diablo 2. It is a melee class which tends to have a lot of HP and can actually take some hits. It is most vulnerable against magic attacks from range, especially when snuck up on. The Barbarian has a lot of area-of-effect attacks, but typically relies on enemies to be clumped up in order to use them effectively. If there are too many enemies spread out across a big room, this can spell trouble for the Barbarian.

The second class you will have access to is the Wizard, which is just like the Sorcerer from Diablo 2. The Wizard has a variety of attacks and as such can be built for both long and short ranged combat. It can also be built to maximize single-target DPS or built for area of effect attacks, depending on what you prefer.
The third class is the Monk, which in all honesty seems quite similar to the Barbarian. I suspect that this class will be more suited than the Barbarian at dealing with magic casters and be less apt at dealing with other physical damage dealers. This makes since and makes the Monk the new anti-caster class.
Fourthly, you have the Witch Doctor, which seems like the most unusual class. It is similar to the Necromancer in that it uses summons and poison attacks. These classes have typically been very good at PvP and of questionable strength in PvE. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Witch Doctor makes a great PvP class as poison attacks can be deadly in PvP.
Finally, you can pick the Demon Hunter, which is the unholy union of the Amazon and Assassin from Diablo 2. This class has both the traps of the Assassin and the bow attacks of the Amazon. I am sure based on the way that Diablo 3 talents work that you will be able to specialize in both normal or regular attacks.
Now that you know all the classes thanks to this Diablo 3 guide, you can make a better choice about what class suits your particular playstyle. Have fun!
